How to Microwave Coffee
Most coffee aficionados would say that you should never reheat your coffee in the microwave. For most people, doing this ruins the taste of the coffee. However, if you really need to then you can reheat it in the microwave by following this method.
- Pop Mug Into the Microwave
Take your cold cup of coffee and pop it into the microwave.
Heat on full power for about thirty seconds.
- Stir and Check
Give the coffee a stir and test the temperature.
Repeat this for thirty seconds each time until your coffee is at the perfect temperature.
3 Tips for Microwaving Coffee
If you’re set on reheating your now cold coffee then give these 3 tips a quick read over first:
- Just Don’t – The first tip when it comes to microwaving coffee is don’t! The flavour of the coffee will have changed considerably and most people struggle to enjoy it the same.
- Heat Slowly in a Pan – If you really want to try and save your cold coffee then instead of microwaving try putting it into a saucepan and heating over a low heat slowly. You will need to keep stirring it and don’t try and rush the process. You need to heat the coffee very slowly to retain as much flavour as possible.
- Microwave in a Jug – If you find that your coffee gets hot quickly and overboils making a mess then transfer it from your mug into a microwavable jug first. This should have more space in it for the coffee to expand as it heats in the microwave.
Advantages of Microwaved Coffee
There are a couple of advantages to microwaving coffee unbelievably:
- Very Quick
The only real advantage of microwaving coffee is how fast you can heat it up. It takes a minute or two at the most to reheat an average cup of coffee.
- Avoids Waste
Another advantage is that you can avoid wasting coffee if you reheat it in the microwave. Most people would say it isn’t worth it but if this is important to you then you can try.
Disadvantages of Microwaved Coffee
Unfortunately, the disadvantages to microwaved coffee are quite bag:
- Flavour is Killed
A very big disadvantage of microwaving your coffee is the taste! Heating your coffee this way kills a lot of the aroma and flavour of the coffee and you can end up with a tasteless slightly stale coffee that is difficult to enjoy.
It’s easy to heat the coffee up too fast and end up with it boiling over your mug and making a big mess in the microwave. Avoid this by checking it regularly and transferring it into a larger microwaveable jug instead of using your mug.
How to Reheat Coffee in the Microwave
Coffee can be microwaved to reheat it but you probably shouldn’t! Coffee is one of those things that only really tastes good when it is made freshly and drunk straight away. Reheating changes the taste to the point where not many people can enjoy it.
How to Defrost Coffee in the Microwave
You can freeze coffee beans before they are ground to make them last a little longer. To defrost these is super easy! All you need to do is take them out of the freezer and pop them into a bowl onto the side for an hour or two. They should then be ready to grind and use.
Although you can microwave coffee, it’s not something we would advise as it will kill the aroma. If you love coffee then you might be best throwing it away rather than trying to reheat it.
